snowflake challenge, day one / day two

okay, so taking a page from [personal profile] cathalin, i'm gonna give this snowflake challenge a try. because i wanna be around more!! yay.

day one:

In your own space, post a rec for at least three fanworks that you have created. It can be your favorite fanworks that you've created, or fanworks you feel no one ever saw, or fanworks you say would define you as a creator. Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.

maybe she's born with it
The OC, teen+, Summer centric gen, post-series, 6,621 words

If this was one of Seth's comic books, she'd have a lair. She'd have a sidekick, and some kind of signature weapon, like a lasso or a magic staff or something. She'd have a costume and a mask and existential angst and a hot reporter that wrote hard-hitting pieces on organized crime and political corruption and she'd have to run around saving him from supervillains all the time.

(If this was Atomic County, Cosmo Girl probably wouldn't be dead, so. Yeah.)

I'm especially proud of this fic, because it came from my heart and I've been wanting to write it for a while. Summer gets superpowers, and grieves for her best friend. It hurt to write. And if I had to pick one story that "defined me as a creator" it'd probably be this one. Summer & Coop, :'(

Life with Derek, Casey/Derek, TiMER AU, 7,786 words

Disasters are kind of their specialty.

Er, I hate the title. Hate it, but other than that, I don't think I've ever been as successful at translating a story from my head into reality than I was with this one. Like, I think about it from time to time, and I'm amazed that it turned out so gracefully, and that I was able to gather all the pieces together into a coherent plotline that makes as much sense as it does. There's a few things I'd fix and change if I were writing it now (I won't, because I don't do that, I sorta leave it up forever as is or take it down forever because I hate it) but overall, if I go back and read it now, two years later, I'm still proud and not totally embarrassed like I usually am when I read old fic.

Friendly Fire
American Idol RPF, teen+, Kris Allen/Adam Lambert, publicist AU, 8,642 words

Life is a comedy to those who think, a tragedy to those who feel. -Jean Racine

I wrote this for the last round of kradamadness and I'm pretty proud of it, mostly because Kris in this is a thinly-veiled version of me. Hahaaa, my classy self-insert fic. Very cathartic. I guess.

For real though, I really do like this one, how it's written and the emotional plot between Adam and Kris. It's one of my favorites from my AI fandom days. I'm proud of how well I was able to put it all together, it feels very clean and clever to me. I'm also very proud of the accompanying images I made. Took me a whole half hour guys, if that's not commitment to a running joke, I don't know what is.

It should also be mentioned that this was written back before we knew Miley Cyrus was super racist. /sigh/

aaand, day two!

Justin Timberlake Does Things

Justin Timberlake is finally released from a long stay at the The Sexy Hospital

Dark side of the Moon (by Flávia Desgranges van der Linden)

I'm so fascinated by this blog. It's presented like each look is a separate submission from a different fashion blogger, but the images are framed and photographed so uniformly that that doesn't make sense?? Whatever. Some great stuff on here. Look at that hot girl wearing Lady Gaga sunglasses and galaxy shorts. Hella cool, right? I want her hair.

Frank Ocean's tumblr
mind is pretty blank right now. i’m sitting in my kitchen listening to age of consent by new order. i like this song.. i fuck with that gwen stefani song ‘cool’ too, i never knew 3000 played keyboards on it- sounds like some teen coming of age movie. i used my birthday week pass to stay in my apartment for too long.. sit still and catch up on some information. i saw that movie ‘glengarry glen ross’ and ‘bottle rocket’, ‘pi’, ‘blackfish’ (sea world is the devil), ‘this is the end’ (hahaha), ‘the purge’(smh), some funny horror movie i forgot the name of ‘…’ . my homie in aussie suggested that i read ‘mr. norris changes trains’.. the writing was really nice. i read ‘the new jim crow’ it made me not fuck with humans for an hour. oh and ‘diffficult men’ which talked about great tv ..dexter, the wire, the sopranos, breaking bad and whatnot. i didn’t watch any news or read it …figured all that shit was gonna happen either way. i’m back to work these days.

Frank Ocean has a tumblr and that goes just about how you'd expect. "the purge (smh)". I'm like, so incredibly happy that this guy exists in the world. Do you ever go about your day and just stop for a second and think to yourself "I wonder what Frank Ocean is doing right now?" Because I do, and his blog helps.

Another note - I did end up finishing two fics for Yuletide!! Furlough (Arrow, Oliver/Felicity, Oliver&Felicity&Diggle holiday fic, ~4k) and Life Important (Fifth Element, Korben/Leeloo, ~3k). Check 'em out if you're interested!!
