GUYS GUYS GUYS

Since I apparently have fic ADD lately, I've abandoned figuring out the next chapter of the Teen Wolf bunny rabbit thing and apparently started a huge, epic Spider-Man fic. Because, uh, why not.

It's sitting at about 10,000 words right now and it will probably be around 20k when it's done, maybe. I dunno. I've seriously written this thing over the course of like three days, and I have the whole plot convalescing in my head and I'm super excited about it.

I would use it for something like the Marvel big bang, but sign ups are closed. Off topic: I really, really hate that big bangs close author sign ups right away. It's like, what if I didn't know about it?! What if I come up with a huge story in the beginning of August that I'd like to use for a big bang but the only one available closed sign ups two months ago?! Even though there's still plenty of time for me to finish and get the story edited in time for the due date in September?! Goddamn it!

This has happened to me like five or six times, I cannot even tell you. Frustrated.

Anyway - the story started as a brain bug, because I have yet to find where the awesome reboot Spider-Man fic is hiding (and I cannot even tell you how happy I am that Gwen Stacy is the new love interest, have I talked about this before? I've always found MJ really annoying, in every incarnation, and UGH. YES, GWEN STACY, THANK YOU) even though it's a perfect movie to write fic for (come on, fandom, is it because there's no obvious slash ship? Shame on you). I mean, there is some good stuff, don't get me wrong. But they're usually short, written for kink memes, that kind of thing.

In fact, the only stuff I've been able to find is a bunch of fic where Peter Parker is the adopted son of Steve and Tony, which what?! No! How do you have Spider-Man without Uncle Ben and Aunt May, that is just sacrilege, okay. Pfft.

But anyway. I also knew that the original plan was to include the Oscorp building in the Avengers film to make it clear that the two are the same canon. For whatever reason, that didn't happen, but since it's Marvel it's practically all the same canon anyway, so who cares. So I went looking for the fic that dealt with the Spider-Man characters in the aftermath of the Avengers Chitauri battle, and I couldn't find it, and I was like, WHY DOES THIS NOT EXIST. Well, it doesn't, as far as I know, so I wrote it.

(Because because because obviously Avengers takes place after Spider-Man, because otherwise Manhattan would be in ruins. And yes I know that it's movie land and so it's entirely possible that they will hand-wave that and be like, OH THEY UH, FIXED IT, HAHA ANYWAY but fuck that. ALIENS INVADED, okay, there need to be consequences. And since Spider-Man is a very different kind of hero than the Avengers, post-Chitauri is just this perfect set up for him to do what he does best, which is take care of the people of New York. He'd be the one running around and rounding up looters and helping keep things in line and rescuing people trapped in the rubble, etc.

And yeah judging by the span of destruction seen in Avengers, there's no way the city is going to bounce back from that all that quickly - did you know the Hollywood Reporter got some company to do damage estimations of the battle in the movie? They came up with 160 billion dollars, I think, which is more than 9/11 and Katrina and the Japan tsunami. So unless Spider-Man is set, like, ten years in the future, it doesn't make sense for the city to look totally normal: hence, Spider-Man has to all happen chronologically before Avengers - there. Logic.)

I was planning on just writing a short thing to get my feet wet, but that obviously didn't happen. The movie left off with this perfect opening for more plot and more characters and more intrigue and I couldn't help myself. So now there's plot, involved plot.

It revolves around Peter rounding up Chitauri technology that was on the loose after the battle. This is based on, obviously, Item 47 (which in case you don't know is the short film being included on the Avengers DVD, which is about this small time crook couple who finds a Chitauri gun and tries to rob a bank with it) but also, in that battle scene, think about how many aliens were killed, how many ships were shot down - it was an insane amount. All of that tech was just lying there, for who knows how long. And there were civilians there, reporters, police, military - tons of people who would've wanted to take it, whether as a souvenir or something to sell or for more nefarious purposes, whatever. There can't be just one gun out there, come on.

Maria Hill is involved with that, and I also decided on kind of an impulse to bring in Hank Pym, too. I wanted also to explore that hint at the end of the film, where we see Connors talking to a shadowy figure in his jail cell, referencing some secret that Connors didn't tell Peter, so there's a subplot about that, which is where Hank Pym comes in.

I also plan to bring in Boomerang (cool Spider-Man villain) and Silver Sable (also a cool Spider-Man sort of villain, sometimes an ally, it depends) and YES! Did I mention I'm excited?

So, would anyone like to read it? I could use some opinions. It's very plot driven, so don't expect anything special, but I am super psyched about this piece and I'd like to have someone to talk about it with. I realize this is like the fifth time I've asked this this month, but any takers?
