no seriously, this is ALL I AM DOING, ALL DAY. it's pretty wonderful.

I'm honestly trying to get the bunny rabbit fic done before I leave for India next week (DID I MENTION I'M GOING TO INDIA NEXT WEEK, NO? I'M GOING TO GODDAMN INDIA NEXT WEEK, BOO YAH) but I'm not...hopeful. More like blindly optimistic.

Anyway, here read this stuff.

for i have measured out my life with coffee spoons, by [livejournal.com profile] youcallitwinter, btvs, from a prompt by me! It's gorgeous.
She’s saved the world sixty five point four three times (that one time with Adam the Scooby Gang might have contributed around point five seven – and she’s kind of being generous really— in the world saving business, but it isn’t like she was totally out of the scene there).

Also this songcommentficathon at youcallitwinter's journal, because yay, fun! Also, let's try to make the word songcommentficathon happen.

The Tragic, Doomed, and Epic Life and Loves of Elizabeth Jean McKay by [livejournal.com profile] captanddeastar, SGA, mckay/sheppard kid!fic, how have I never read this before?! Faaaantastic.
"I just..." she tries to explain. "I...who will I be tragically in love with now? I am an amazing genius with beautiful blue eyes who fixes everything that goes wrong, and you are a handsome and rakish Air Force officer with spiky hair and a devil-may-care glint in your eye! It was the perfect formula! How could it go so wrong?!" Elizabeth throws her hands up in despair and confusion.

Lorne is laughing a little.

"Remember how you promised not to laugh?" Elizabeth says dangerously.

Blood in the Water, Fire in the Sky: A Love Story by [archiveofourown.org profile] ahab2692, teen wolf, derek/stiles, this is pretty goddamn epic. It moves really quickly and so in the beginning you have to kind of stretch to believe some of it (the progression of the Derek/Stiles particularly) but it just keeps getting better with each part. Interesting plot and the best explanation for What's Up With Lydia I've seen yet. Long, though, and warnings for character death - ~62,000 words total.
Stiles wipes his eyes, rubs at his nose. “You guys are the best thing in my life,” he says, open and honest and so heartbreakingly sincere that the sentiment doesn’t sound cliched or cheap. “I don’t know what I’d do without you.”

Derek nods. “I know,” he murmurs. “But you never have to worry about that. Not from me. Not from any of us.”

My, What Large Teeth You Have by [archiveofourown.org profile] Elzebe, teen wolf, derek/stiles, there are, of course, a gazillion little red riding hood fics ALREADY but this one's my favorite because tropes! It twists them! Sexy and fun.
This is why I should stop being such a nice guy, thinks Stiles as he stares up into the face of an angry and criminally attractive guy that is definitely not Mr. Takehashi, the eighty year old agoraphobic that his dad sends Stiles over to deliver a casserole every week as an excuse to check up on him. This is also why I should convince Dad I need a taser.

and now genderbending!stiles! woo hoo read this one first: The Strong Scent of Evergreen by [archiveofourown.org profile] rubykatewriting, derek/stiles obvs, SO FREAKING SEXY AND PERFECT, MY HEART, IT GREW THREE SIZES
Lydia explains knotting over coffee, because that’s what their lives are now.

and then: In the Next Room by [archiveofourown.org profile] twentysomething, derek/stiles, includes the story and its pornquel, like she's all that but not as offensive and bonus werewolves!
"Okay, you are being super fucking crazy right now. It's not even your time of the month for another two weeks, no excuses." Stiles snaps. It's not her best zinging comeback but clearly it does something , because Derek is kissing her like they're going to die.

Complete Blank by [archiveofourown.org profile] rivkat, GROSSE POINTE BLANK FIC, THAT IS ALL YOU NEED TO KNOW, ignore how old this story is and how I'm just now catching on
In any event, Marcella took over the wedding planning with the air of a frustrated parent who'd watched her children struggle too long to make pictures with macaroni and tempera paint, and who'd swept the table clean to start again. In this analogy, she favored impasto. By the end of the week she had five different binders and signed contracts with a jazz band.

Manly Wedding Blog which is not a fic, but a blog about weddings, which is manly, and written by someone Kat Dennings like, went to high school with or something which is how I found it but whatever, it's pretty funny. In a dude way, you know.

Even a Miracle Needs a Hand by [archiveofourown.org profile] victoria_p, darcy lewis/clint barton (hawkeye), various avenger fandoms (LOOK CAN WE JUST CALL IT "AVENGERS FANDOM"? JESUS) this is adorable. Christmas!
"Who cares about that?" Tony asks through a mouthful of crumbs. "I want to know what these cookies mean. Are they, Sorry, We Didn't Get You a Pony, Darcy cookies or We're Running Off to Maui for the Holidays So You're On Your Own cookies or what?"

"No," Darcy says, looking up from where she's been texting furiously with her sister to confirm the terrible news. "These are You're Going to Be the Only Single Person at Christmas Dinner and Aunt Lucy Thinks You're Going to Die Old and Alone and Be Eaten By Cats preserves cookies."

That Keeps On Giving by [archiveofourown.org profile] mayachain, SGA McKay/Sheppard, look this makes me feel lots of feelings. I am still pissed off we don't get our movie that ends with everyone moving to a planet somewhere and living in a hut and building their own village and shit.
Radek does not need to see schematics that will show something thought unachievable transformed into something reachable. It is not hard to guess that whatever has caught the lunatic's imagination now, this time it will be something ultimately for the benefit of Colonel Sheppard. No-one in any of the known galaxies will ever, ever pour as much of his heart into something for Radek as Rodney McKay has already done for his team.

My hotmail account has been sending out spam messages, and even though I never save people in my contacts for this exact reason, it's apparently just sending it to any addresses I've received mail from. I use this account (downopheliadrowns at hotmail dot com) for fannish purposes only nowadays, so if you've ever sent me email, and you get email from me, um, probably best not to open it.

If I'm going to email somebody, I'll do it from a different account from now on.

*starry eyes* I don't even know where to start.

so i've definitely been MIA for the past week or so, because i've been MOVING, and as i type this now i am officially MOVED. except for my clothes, which are sitting in hampers right next to me and decidedly not in the closet where their home is. but other than that, everything's MOVED.

i live in carterville, illinois, which is a tiny town very close to carbondale, illinois, which is where a huge university is that i'm hoping to get into for the fall. my apartment complex is actually for another college called john a. logan college, so it's a lot like the apartments i had at my undergrad, only this time my roommmate and i decided to decorate like adults instead of overgrown teenagers so it's not nearly as shitty. my mom came down with me and decorated the crap out of this place, so it looks awesome.

it's a nice place. everyone seems like they're really happy to live here. i don't know about myself yet, i need some more time. and a goddamn job.

but anyway. in between moving and looking for a job and hanging with the roommate i have been marathoning TEEN WOLF. that's right, you assholes LOOK WHAT YOU'VE DONE TO ME. also, spoilers. )

The remixes are posted! I haven't read them all yet because I was distracted by the remix of my girl story and friends. Friends, it is utterly glorious.

girl, you're like a weird vacation (the howl-at-the-moon remix)

GO READ IT FIRST, BECAUSE I'M BIASED. Oh my God, I'm so lucky. WEREWOLVES. LESBIAN WEREWOLVES.

*hyperventilates a little*

I have no idea who wrote it. The style doesn't jump out at me (because lol, I was thinking last night, if samanthahirr or akavertigo were the ones to remix my fic, I thought I could tell because they have such distinctive styles) but that doesn't necessarily mean anything because it is anonymous, and as familiar as you can be with how someone writes, that can still stump you. And there's also a couple authors in the mix that I'm really unfamiliar with, so I really don't know.

Well, whoever it is, I'm going to hug them forever. You know, virtually. A virtual forever hug full of happiness and lesbian werewolf joy.

The other thing I wanted to post: so, I am very possibly, probably going to India in January. I know little to nothing about India, so any thoughts would be appreciated very much. I know you're all a bunch of worldly, lovely people, so who has been? What part of India did you travel to? What was it like? Practical advice? Things I can't miss? I'm hungry for knowledge, friends.

WHY DO I HAVE TO WORK TODAY I WANT TO STAY HOME AND READ. D:

first of all, run don't walk to this fic by [livejournal.com profile] geonncannon, written for me for the fandom free for all. It's a Community/Arrested Development crossover and do not drink any liquids while reading.

Then, go read Gloria Steinem's original Ms. article, "I Was a Playboy Bunny." Links to a .pdf file - original text! This is the most surreal, creepy, horrible thing ever. And why I just can not, not, not stand to watch shows like Pan Am or The Playboy Club.

"This is the part all the girls hate," said the doctor, and took blood from my arm for a Wassermann test. I told him that testing for venereal disease seemed a little ominous. "Don't be silly," he said, "all the employees have to do it. You'll know everyone in the club is clean." I said that their being clean didn't really affect me and that I objected to being put through these tests. Silence. He asked me to stand to "see if your legs are straight." "Okay," I said, "I have to have a Wassermann. But what about an internal examination? Is that required of waitresses in New York State?"

"What do you care?" he said. "It's free, and it's for everybody's good."

"How?" I asked.

"Look," he said impatiently, "we usually find that girls who object to it strenuously have some reason..." He paused significantly. I paused, too. I could either go through with it or I could march out in protest. But in protest of what?

[personal profile] akavertigo's newest addition to the pregnant werefox genre. She is so the prettiest girl at the prom.

This poem, by Sherman Alexie, entitled "Good Hair." I'm not sure why it's on a phone on my computer screen, but I recommend putting on some Nine Inch Nails or something while you read it. Poetry always needs music.

[livejournal.com profile] reena_jenkins just podficced my story "Magical Lemonade" and you can check it out here! Yes, this is the second podfic for this story. I am a lucky, lucky cookie.

Go check it out! :)

I CAN'T DECIDE! So maybe pledge for both? (You only have to fulfill the pledges for the challenge that wins!)

So LJ is still acting up so I decided to just do this here and hope for the best with crossposting.

[personal profile] blue_icy_rose, you are my favorite because we share ALL the fandoms!

Chris Halliwell, Sharpay Evans, Jackie Burkhart, Pacey Witter )

The meme!

Give me a character and I will give you:

a) Two head canon facts
b) Their favorite type of music
c) One story from their school days
d) One character that I will forever ship with them
e) One character that other people ship with them that I will never be able to agree
f) One thing that makes the way I write said character differently from the way other people do
g) One story that I would really like to see them in that I'm not going to write for various reasons.

Random: my brother is watching The Sandlot and I am remembering why I hated all those little boy movies so, so, so much. Ugh, no thanks.

OTHER FISH

A girl with a backpack on a cellular phone sighs;
between the exhale and the first consonant
a van barrels through her. And who knows
what the boy thinks, his line slipping from her voice,
her words sucked backwards through the wire?
Two hours from now he'll be drunk,
his slurred thoughts slobbering over motives,
why she decided suddenly to leave him
and hung up mid-word.

The phone yelps angrily from under a bus,
and she lays splayed like an asterisk
in the dreary sentence of Fourteenth Street.
